Exposed

Yvonne McCarthy takes moments from her family album & tells of her life with photography...
My uncle started a photography company in Jackson, Mississippi, in the 40’s that became Kodak’s biggest customer under the government, effectively making it the second largest company Kodak sold film to at the time. The whole family on my mother’s side was involved in this company that was sold in the 80’s to a large conglomerate.

My mom taught my dad to shoot a Speed Graphic 4x5 while they were both in high school. Those black and white images recorded the day perfectly when my parents were so young and desperately in love.

That same camera would forever capture a moment that no one knew at the time would have so much meaning in the future... proof that I was literally shooting film even before I could crawl! (as my baby picture - to the left - with me holding a shutter release attached to the camera behind me attests)

Since my entire family are photographers and I was “exposed” to this lifestyle early on, it was just a natural path for me to take.

I’ve always been involved in art and music so it seems that photography was a natural extension or progression into further and diverse avenues of expression.

With computers came yet another tool so I went “digital” a few years ago. I truly believe that I’ve grown so much faster in the photography field due to digital because your results are instant. The beauty of black and white digital photography combines the classic style of the old and the hot technology of the new.

In college I majored in music (playing the Cello). I also play guitar, piano, and sing as well as write music.

We have a recording studio where Kevin writes and records audio and I participate in the commercials often times. I work at home as his webmaster, photographer, sound engineer etc. Kevin has been a well known talk show host for many years in the Dallas area.

My camera is attached at the hip and after going digital, it has opened up the photography opportunities one hundred fold. I also have a self-confessed obsession with my three cats who, more often than not, are the unwitting subjects of my digital camera lens.

Photography has given me so many things in my life time... a family profession, memories, visions, and the opportunity to share the world as seen through my eyes...
