The Heart of an Artist...

Mary Jo Mosier tells of her love for the art of digital photography...

After reviewing the other biographies on this site, I seriously considered not posting mine. I do not have the experience or travels of many of my peers, but I do have a true passion for photography. I thought I would share a little about myself.

I am a 36 year old wife, and mother of 2 beautiful boys, 17 & 6months, so I stay busy. Currently, I am a homemaker, and money is tight. I would love to have some great photography equipment, to improve my work, but that is not possible at this time.

I started out as an artist. I have done many watercolors, and charcoal drawings. I have always loved art in all forms. I received training from Robert "Learned Hand", a Native American who did all of the oil paintings that John Wayne had in his personal collection. I studied art as early as 10, per personal instructor. So my love of art started at a young age.

I realized in the early 90's that photography was a better form of art. I have taken various photography courses in college, and have won some online photo contests. I have also studied fine art.

Black & White photography is the most articulate way I can express myself. It's almost like I am turning the camera inward toward my soul. Black & white is definitely the most valid form of expression. There is no color to distract, and the raw feeling of the image is captured.

I love the work of Alfred Stieglitz, Julia Cameron and Emmet Gowin. I would love to have the status and nobility of these individuals. A special thanks to Doug Anglin, who was my high school art instructor. He was a master of calligraphy, and he was a great inspiration to me. He passed on in 1991.

I am not even close to where I would like to be as a photographer, but I think that I have the potential to succeed. I would love to be known for my work, and I will strive to achieve this goal.

As mentioned previously, I have won some online photo contests, and won my high school art fair in 1985. I have received numerous honorable mentions at our county art expo.

My favorite subjects to photograph are nature, animals and people. I work with objects that are close to home, in my “bluegrass” state. I will continually strive to improve my photography skills, and I sincerely hope that you enjoy my work.
